Aramco Brat Summer Jackson, daughter of Saudi Aramco annuitants Larry and Diane Jackson, recently completed her sophomore year at Stanford University with high honours.
She has been awarded a National Security Education Program, David L Boren Undergraduate Scholarship for 2006-2007 and selected as a 2006 Institute for International Public Policy Fellow.
Summer will be studying at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, this summer as part of the IIPP program, before flying to South Africa for a Stanford Overseas Seminar. In January 2007, Summer will expand her studies in International Relations and Arabic by studying at the American University in Cairo, before completing another summer seminar for IIPP.
In addition to all the studying, Summer is looking forward to the opportunity to spend time with her Father in Bahrain between courses and, hopefully, visit with friends from Saudi.
Summer’s thesis for IIPP will deal with the role of women’s organizations in the Middle East in general, and Saudi Arabia in particular, and she is looking forward to meeting with many of her, and her Mother’s, friends to discuss this topic and present a balanced and accurate picture to the Western world of the role of women in Islamic societies.
