Carter Swartz, 80, of Sarasota Florida, died May 13, 2007. Originally from South Bend, Indiana, he graduated from Indiana University and was a Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Swartz and his family lived in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, for 26 years. He was Director of Management Development for Aramco. Mr. Swartz was an avid sailor, racing extensively in the Arabian Gulf and participating in the Hobie Cat European Championships in Italy and France. After moving to Sarasota in 1984, the family enjoyed cruising on their Island Packets Nomad and Shaba'an.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Beverly; children: Carter J. Swartz II and wife Anne of Sarasota, Scott T. Swartz of Tampa, Renell K. Bourne and husband Stephen of Putney, VT; grandchildren: Sky Headland and husband Matt of Massachusetts, Tyler J. Swartz and Ryan J. Swartz, both of Sarasota, Logan, Jordan and Stephanie Bourne, all of Vermont; and great-grandson Levi Headland of Massachusetts.
