Author: Kristi Ransom Munoz
Released 30 June 2008

Stephen Clifford Ransom, a true son of Texas and proud heir to the Confederacy, was born in Houston, Texas to Willard and Melba Ransom on September 3, 1947 and passed away at his home in Caldwell, Texas on April 6, 2008.

Steve attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, Texas. His family was proud of his service to his country as a Vietnam veteran where he served aboard the submarine, the U.S.S. Catfish. Following his naval service, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Steve worked and lived for seventeen years in Saudi Arabia, from 1980 to 1997, as a chemical engineer for ARAMCO. While living in Ras Tanura, he developed a love for exploring the Arabian Desert where he was able to indulge his passions for history and archeology. He enjoyed an early retirement beginning in 1997, at the home he built in his beloved Texas where he lived out his life with his wife Sherry of 39 years and their many four-legged companions.

He had a passion for genealogy and spent many hours researching his ancestors. His days were filled with gardening, and enjoying the outdoors with his dogs and favorite cold beverage. He was a lifetime member of the Caldwell VFW, Post #4458. Until his illness, he enjoyed weekly volunteer bartending duty, along with his dog Socks, at the VFW, and hearing the many stories told by the members there.

He is preceded in death by his father, Willard A. Ransom, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Melba Ruth Remington and stepfather Herb Remington of Houston; his brother, Willard A. Ransom, Jr. (Sonny) of Houston; his loving wife of 39 years Sherry Lee Witcher Ransom; his beautiful children, son Eric Scott Ransom and wife Amy of Wincanton, England, and daughter Kristi Lee Ransom Munoz and husband Michael of Frisco, Texas; and grandchildren Kelsey Ransom, Matthew (The General) Ransom, Jonathan Munoz, Lucy Munoz and Madeline Munoz.

    Dear Kristi and family,
The death of your father saddens all who knew him, and it causes me grief for you and Eric and your mom and all your family, but especially you and Eric, my dear students.  I have such good memories of you, and your mother and father made you what you are and what you were to me- students who brought me much enjoyment.
My sincere sympathy to you all.

    Dear Sherry & Family,
I was saddened to hear of Steve's passing, but am glad that I had the opportunity of working with him and knowing you both. I have fond memories of our RT days and know that Steve has gone on to a sweeter camp site.
Our Best to you and the rest of the family - Lisa & Brian Blakely
