What do Lakeway, Texas and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia have in common? Well, for one thing, they both are lakefront communities. Lakeway is situated on the shore of Lake Travis and Dhahran is on the shore of Lake Lanhardt. For another thing, they both have amateur theater groups, the Lakeway Players and the Dhahran Theatre Group (DTG). A further tie is that several of the Lakeway Players are former Aramcons.
For example, the Players’ most recent production of Arsenic and Old Lace had a distinct DTG flavor. The play was directed by Bob Loeb, who also designed the set and constructed most of it, with the assistance of Aramco Annuitant, Judy Walker, production assistant and prompter. Aramcon, Gayle Baldwin, whose husband currently works in Dhahran, was the stage manager, and Aramco Brat, Keith Walker, handled the sound. Four former Aramcons were in the cast of 14, Pat Vanderford as Aunt Martha, Jim Fleming as Dr. Einstein, Bob Loeb as Lt. Rooney, and Bill Walker as Jonathan, a role he played in Dhahran in 1984.
So, if you find yourself living in the Austin area and you’re looking for something to do with your spare time, give one of the Players a call. Have we got a deal for you!
