Amy is back in school, doing everything she wants to do, and she wants to do everything. They did something with her pacemaker (new additional leads??) and each time she returns to the Universitiy Hospital, she is told she is a teensy weensy little bit better. And, they say, that while that doesn't seem like much, it is better than a teensy weensy little bit worse, and her heart, which had enlarged greatly because it was working so hard, has almost returned to normal size. She is still on the transplant list, but they hope that by the time she needs it again, she will be older and it will be easier to find one to fit her size, plus she will be in much better health than she was two years ago. Also, perhaps there will be newer procedures and medicines, and be more advanced than they are now. Each year is an added plus.
When Amy was taken to Shands University Hospital two years ago, she was at the top of the transplant list, but no donors were available with her blood type. She was living on borrowed time, and it was thought she would not make it. Then, one of her doctors sent her to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, and there, the cardiologist decided on the new pacemaker. It worked, and it has been uphill ever since.
Amy's parents say they know the barrage of cards, letters and gifts from strangers helped her get better. When she returned home, she looked forward to the mail delivery, and the church had to have someone bring the many boxes of mail to her home several times a day. They have kept them all. I have read some of them. People were so wonderful about responding. Amy has received letters and cards from countries world-wide. It just goes to show how good our Aramco family is, to respond to a little girl's crisis the way everyone has.
I thank everyone from Amy and her family (Amy's grandparents, Randy Clay and Carole Lamb, lived in Abqaiq in the 1970s, and her dad, Jeff, went to school there). We wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
