Layne BrodieLayne Brodie

Layne Brodie, daughter of former ARAMCONs Brenda and Hall Brodie, learned to swim competitively in Abqaiq in the mid 1990s under the watchful eye of former teacher Kevin Baxter. Layne has continued her swimming in Atlanta and recently completed her high school career by winning her 4th 100Y breaststroke title and breaking the Georgia State High School record.

Following her graduation in June, Layne swam in a Grand Prix meet in Charlotte, NC recording a time of 1:11.98 in the 100M breaststroke which earned her a trip to the Olympic Trials in Omaha, NE in July. Layne narrowly missed her Olympic Q time in the 200M breaststroke and 200M IM. She will be competing in the U.S. Nationals in Minneapolis during the 1st week of August, and then she is off to start her college career swimming for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

Layne and her family left Saudi Arabia in 1998, but the good coaching she received from ARAMCO volunteer coaches at the great ARAMCO facilities were a major part of her swimming success many years later.

Thank you all for the kind words - we are back from Omaha having seen some of the most amazing swimming in our lives. Layne did very well for her first Olympic Trials. Although there were over 100 young and old adults there (13 the youngest and 43 the oldest), they represent less than 0.5% of the competitive swimmers in the US so being there was a great accomplishment. Going into the 100M breaststroke, Layne was seeded around 90 out of 120+ with a seed time of 1:11.98 - she won her heat, swam a 1:11.63 and moved up to 48. She had a similar situation in the 200M breaststroke and moved from 72 to 54 with a time of 2:35.93. She had a great time as did Brenda and I - Omaha was great and the swimming was unbelievable - what an experience! London is in 4 years and Layne has a great coach at the University of North Carolina so we will keep you posted!! Thanks for the support and it would be great to hear from all of you!!  Hall Brodie (brodie3051@charter.net)
