September 2010 Update from Aramco Brat Desiree Misanko-Louvat
Thank you to everyone who has continued to show support for Operation Baghdad Pups by donating and spreading the word about this life changing program.
As we head into fall our team in Iraq is preparing the new mission schedule. Terri Crisp (Operations Manager) wrote from Erbil to say the team is keeping many dogs there in a makeshift kennel and will begin transporting them out in September. Our troop withdrawal from Iraq has necessitated a change in planning, so while we used to go in to Baghdad for short trips we are now staying for months to set-up transport. Please spread the word to help with the added cost and if you can please donate, even $5 can help. I look forward to bringing you more success stories from Iraq soon. For more information and to see how you can help, please visit Operation Baghdad Pups.
While Operation Baghdad Pups is finishing up the missions in Iraq they are also turning their sights to the requests coming in from Afghanistan. At this time Operation Baghdad Pups is working with Nowzad, a rescue group which is already established in Afghanistan. I recently received requests for more information on how to help soldiers in Afghanistan and was told by Terri to contact Nowzad, or their stateside component Soldiers Animal Companion Fund (SAC Fund). Nowzad is a wonderful program based in the UK, but if you want to donate to help our soldiers in Afghanistan you can do so through SAC Fund. Here is a recent article through the New York Post on some of the dogs who saved our soldiers and came home to be with them: Hero to Be Reunited with Soldier He Saved.
As always I am so grateful for our Aramco communities giving nature. Thank you again for helping our soldiers and their companions with your support. Please visit Operation Baghdad Pups for more information on and to see how you can help. Click Here to Donate!
Here's to making a difference for our troops in 2010! God bless our soldiers, their families, and furry angels!

Aramco Brat Desiree Misanko-Louvat (Dhahran ’90 grad) alerted Aramco ExPats to a great cause that needs your help.
"I recently watched the 'No Dog Left Behind' special on the Military Channel and I was so incredibly touched by the soldiers' devotion to these animals that I immediately checked out the website for Operation Baghdad Pups," Desiree wrote in an email.
According to the website, while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. military troops often befriend local animals as a way to help cope with the emotional hardships they endure every day while deployed in a war zone. Through SPCA International, the Operation Baghdad Pups program provides veterinary care, and coordinates complicated logistics and transportation requirements in order to reunite these beloved pets with their service men and women back in the United States. These important animals not only help our heroes cope in the combat zone, but they also help our troops come home mentally, as well as physically.
Without Operation Baghdad Pups, a majority of service members could not afford to bring their special companions home from the Middle East. Your donations will help us provide soldiers with travel crates, vaccinations, transportation for their animal to the Baghdad Airport and transport home.
"Time is running out!" Desiree wrote. "As our troops withdraw from Iraq, animals are getting left behind. The next Mission to Iraq is scheduled for the beginning of January, so the more money we can raise in December, the more animals can be brought out."
