AramcoExPats.com Makes the Front Pages – Read All About It!

Author: Britney B.
Released 30 June 2003

I’ve just returned from Menorca and was delighted to find that the Aramcoexpats web site was acknowledged on the front page of last week’s Arabian Sun. Many congratulations to Vicci Thompson and her son, Rusty Swayne, who have worked so hard on getting this project off the ground and making the site the enormous success it’s become. After working with Vicci back in the early 1980’s in the Process Computers Department (didn’t we have fun!), and being good friends ever since, I personally know what a hard worker she is and how much she and Rusty have enjoyed creating and establishing the website.

One of the most useful things about the site is the ability for anyone to access it wherever they are in the world. Not only is it visited by past and present Aramco employees, it’s becoming increasingly used by people who want to know what it’s like to work and live in Saudi Arabia, especially given the current world situation. During my recent vacation I got to know a few of my new neighbors in Menorca, and many of them were interested in life in Saudi. When I told them I wrote a weekly article for our expat website, and that the web site included historical items about the country and it’s early pioneers, news about social groups including bridge, art and gardening, and a suq area, etc. etc., they were all keen to obtain the web site address and log on to it.

A friend who left Aramco more than ten years ago is often asked by her local school to give talks on Saudi Arabia to young pupils. She has been doing this for the past eight or nine years and recently told me what a boon the Aramcoexpats web site has become to her. So, the site is even being used as an educational tool.

Vicci and Rusty, all your hard work continues to give people a lot of information and pleasure. I’m sure all the regular visitors to the site will join me in thanking you both so much for creating such a wonderful website.
