Released 13 November 2007

The Book --- It is coffee-table sized (11” x 17”), hard cover, and printed in two colors, with 118 pages containing more than 300 black & white pictures covering virtually every aspect of life in Arabia during the early fifties, plus others taken in 1979 and 2000.

The Great Adventure

It also features about 18-20 thought-provoking, if not downright provocative, essays which reveal the realities of those pioneering days, and complement the several hundred rare pictures, most of them never seen before. It is an impressive, handsomely designed book.

The Great Adventure

The essays include the story of a young prince who, needing a break from the desert (much like anyone else, especially an Aramco employee), took a ‘local leave’ to Paris. To make sure he retained the memories of this vacation, the prince hired a French motion-picture cameraman to follow him around, documenting every wonderful moment.. Upon his return to Arabia, the prince ‘screened’ his vacation movie for several people, including Oxley.  There are several more stories like this in the book, equally revealing of the unique-one-of-a-kind experiences of the era.

This is truly a rare book on Aramco and Saudi Arabia, covering the first explosive growth of a brand new oil company following World War II, and the Americans who helped make Saudi Arabia what it is today, a giant player in the energy world.

It sells for $49.50 plus postage and shipping for a total of $55.00  He will be delighted to autograph the book, if requested.
