Cast and crew are steadfastly working to bring their own rendition of Rogers’ and Hammerstein’s classic musical tale, “The King & I”, to the RT stage. Coordinating the efforts of more than 85 volunteers from Ras Tanura, Dhahran, Udhailiyah and Abqaiq in order to put together any event is no small task; however that is the current mission of Ras Tanura Players’ Group under the direction of Harlan Moore. The 60+ member cast and 20+ member crew promise to provide 3 delightful performances. The premier is set for 7:30PM on Wednesday, November 30, the second show opens at 7:30PM Thursday, December 1 and the final presentation is a matinee on Friday, December 2 with the curtain rising at 2:30PM.

“The King & I” reveals the experiences of a young English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her son, Louis, as they live in the 1860’s in what was then known as Siam (now Thailand). Anna is employed by King Mongkut to teach Western ideals and the English language to his wives and sixty-seven children. However, the king’s aspiration to have Siam take its place in the world is frequently overshadowed by a desire to hold on to long-held traditions and beliefs. This captivating tale takes an in-depth look at differing personalities and cultures.

Thrilling drama, elaborate sets, stunning costumes, time-tested melodies, quick-witted humor and superb choreography all join together as a grand testament to the awesome results of people working as a team toward a common goal. The show has great potential and will surely pay off considering the vast number of committed volunteers as well as the community support which is in place. To add to the value of this already extraordinary offering, a delicious meal catered by Al Gosaibi will be served prior to each performance. So, ticket holders get dinner or lunch and theater for one price. Adult tickets (age 12 and over) are SR150 and children’s tickets (under 12) are SR75 each. A limited number of tickets are available, so be sure to contact one of the ticket sellers listed here as soon as sales begin.
