Alison Stephens is making a welcome return visit here. Many will recall her previous visit in December 2003 with guitarist, Craig Ogden.
Alison is a leading exponent of the classical mandolin in the UK. She was the first graduate of mandolin from Trinity College of Music, London and was appointed teacher on graduation. Alison has played across the UK and around the world. She has also broadcast extensively for radio and has presented her own BBC Radio 4 show which was subsequently nominated for a Sony Award.
In addition to concerto performances, Alison regularly gives recitals both solo and as a duo with Craig Ogden (guitar), Lauren Scott (harp) as Duo Mandala or with piano.
“Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” in its stage and film productions featured Alison’s mandolin playing. The stage production was a sell out at the Edinburgh Festival between 1999 and 2003 Alison also toured extensively with this production around Britain and overseas. Her CD: Music from the Novels of Louis de Bernières, with Craig Ogden, sold over 10,000 copies in the first three months.
Alison has also made other CDs, copies of which will be available for sale at the concert. Some of the pieces she will be playing are featured on these CDs.
