If you thought the Oakland Raiders made it over Philadelphia this year - well, that's not the way it went in the Society for Simulated Sports (SSS) version of the NFL season on March 19. The Philadelphia Eagles blitzkrieged their way to a 23-6 Superbowl victory, making it clear the nutcracker defense of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was only good enough for second place.
Thorn Snyder and John Quayle, the Eagles' immaculate veteran coaching staff, made full use of the 8-4 turnover split in this final showdown game to finish 16 to 1 for the season. Mike Ehlers and Mike Erspammer, Tamp Bay's bright young coaches, lost out this time, but had the consolation of teaching the Los Angeles Rams a gridiron lesson in their own conference championship game. No SSS team has ever won all its games.
Each September a new simulated football season begins in Dhahran. Actual detailed data from the preceding year on the 28 American pro-football teams and their hundreds of players are used in the simulated game, which is played on a board duplicating the American gridiron. Everything happens in the simulation that occurs in the real game except for physical injuries.
The Society for Simulated Sports is look for new members. Anyone interested may contact the secretary, Martin Judd. A summer league football competition for training new coaches will be organized if the response is sufficient.
The Society for Simulated Sports continues to be a very active self-directed group in Saudi Aramco. Login and visit their "Club" section under "Lifestyles".
