Runners are already beginning to get in gear for the Houston Marathon, but for runners not ready to commit to the grueling 26.2 miles, there’s an alternative: the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.
Many half-marathons, like the Aramco Houston Half Marathon, are held in conjunction with a marathon. Following the trend, the Houston Marathon and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon will both be held on January 14.
For anyone who is already running several times a week, it’s not too late to start training for the Houston half-marathon. If you can currently run for about 45 minutes, you have plenty of time to begin a training program that will build your endurance for the half marathon.
There are numerous free half-marathon training programs on the web. Jeff Galloway offers a full training schedule on his “Run Injury Free with Jeff Galloway” site, while Running Planet offers a training schedule for Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced, or Recreational runners.
Sean Wade, winner of the 2003 Houston Marathon, has developed an interactive program designed for Aramco Houston Half Marathon trainees. The training plan, available for $25, is offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The beginning level involves three or four runs each week, and measures each workout in minutes, not miles.
Aramco ExPats Foundation is helping to make every step count by raising money for the American Cancer Society an official charity of the Aramco Houston Half Marathon. Please help in the fight against cancer by making a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
