Seventy-five years after a signed concession granted commencement of foreign oil prospecting in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco prepares to celebrate a milestone anniversary and Aramco ExPats prepares to dedicate 2007 to a year-long look back at Aramco and the people who built it. Joined by freelance writer and grandson of the late Ken and Mildred Webster, Ken Slavin, our look back will feature a series of articles and photographs documenting Aramco history.
First up in the series is the first installment of "Dear Folks": The Webster Letter from Arabia, 1944 -1959 a series of articles being written by Ken Slavin. Based on the weekly letters his grandparents sent Stateside to loved ones during their years in Saudi Arabia, these letters are loaded with colorful stories of everyday life in young Aramco.
Also, to begin the series we selected an informative article titled "The Pioneers" from the Saudi Aramco World archives written by Thomas Lippman that looks at a handful of Americans who touched the life of King 'Ibn Saud and laid the foundation for concession being granted to America.
As we detail Aramco history through personal accounts, photographs, and historical documents we hope to generate more material through reader feedback and submissions to info@aramcoexpats.com. Featured articles will mainly be chronicled in our Pipeline section under "In Search of Oil" while photos will be archived in the Galleries section mainly under "Life in Saudi Arabia".
Join us on this historical journey as we bring you closer to the people and times that shaped Aramco.
