Charles O. Cecil writes about the economic and industrial significance of gum arabic, for Africa and for the world. Gum arabic is the hardened sap of the Acacia senegal tree, which is found in the swath of arid lands extending from Senegal on the west coast of Africa all the way to Pakistan and India. His photographs and article were orignially published in Saudi Aramco World magazine.
