Oil Spill Training Course participants get ready to start the hands-on exercise.
DJIDDAH, December 12, 2007 -- Twenty-five employees from various operations and support organizations attended an Oil Spill Training Course and Exercise conducted by the Marine Department’s Global Oil Spill Response Team here.
Regional oil-spill coordinator for the Red Sea Muhammad A. Saber opened by stressing Saudi Aramco’s commitment to oil-spill prevention, to protect the environment and to be ready to mount a quick and effective response whenever the need might arise.
Besides classroom lectures, there were field demonstrations at Jiddah Marine Facilities on response techniques, resources and pollution-control equipment.
Saber delivered a presentation describing Saudi Arabia’s National Contingency Plan and Saudi Aramco’s Oil Spill Contingency Plans.

In a hands-on exercise, participants deployed containment and protection booms and oil-recovery skimmers from the Marine pollution-control vessel Midyan, with the help of other small support vessels.
Hassan A. Anbar, superintendent of Western Region Marine Operations, presented certificates and thanked those who attended.
“Saudi Aramco relies on your efforts,” he said.
The course was coordinated and presented by pollution control engineer Majed B. Kaki, who was joined by Saad S. Al-Ghamdi from the Ras Tanura team.
Western Region Marine Operations made the Midyan available, along with other equipment and personnel.
