HOUSTON, April 02, 2008 -- Aramco Services Co. (ASC) recruiters hit the ground running early in 2008 in their search for qualified candidates to fill Saudi Aramco’s growing demand for talented people. The pace through mid-March alone set an ambitious level of activity that will keep up throughout the year.
Abdulwahab Al-Abbas, left, and Joe Coleman use a new tracking and status system to monitor activities and results at the Houston Job Fair.
Starting Jan. 10, with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers regional meeting in Houston, ASC’s North American Staffing Services (NASS) has conducted or attended 22 events to reach new prospects. This high level of recruiting activity reflects ASC’s hiring goal, which is 36 percent above 2007 hires.
“We see a lot of people who are interested in pursuing international opportunities and a challenging career opportunity with a respected industry leader like Saudi Aramco. They hear about us and want to be part of the team,” said Mohammed Y. Al-Qahtani, ASC president and CEO. “The expats we’re looking to recruit are the ones who have the technology expertise, work experience, education and background to be important contributors throughout Saudi Aramco’s operations. Our goal is to hire employees who are committed to sharing the responsibility of delivering energy to the world.”
Volunteers from throughout ASC, including Inez McBride of the Technical Services Department, worked with the Staffing Services team to help facilitate the Houston Job Fair.
ASC set the pace in January at its Houston Job Fair, which drew a record 909 candidates and resulted in more than 200 technical interviews with about 25 representatives from Saudi Aramco. More than 60 ASC employees, including volunteers who worked on their days off, facilitated the event.
Through March, ASC job fairs in Canada, Colombia and the United States were slated among a heavy schedule of professional meetings and expos. And the targeted positions were more across-the-board than ever before. “We’re seeing more interest among educators, project managers and support specialists in a broad range of jobs offered by Saudi Aramco,” said Betsy Chamberlain of Staffing Services. ASC’s reach in 2008 will extend to various expos in Mexico and across South America. In all, the 51 scheduled events for the year are a high-water mark in the company’s recruiting history.
