Many people, including Saudi Aramco president and CEO Abdallah S. Jum‘ah, executive management and employees, friends and family came to wish Jalali well in his retirement and express their thanks and gratitude for everything he’s done for those around him and for the company over the past three decades.

In his speech, senior vice president of Industrial Relations Abdulaziz F. Al-Khayyal reminisced about the first time he met Jalali back in the ’80s at Berri Gas Plant. “Jalali stood out amongst the other engineers,” said Al-Khayyal. “He was great at managing his time and resources and was always keen on improving his knowledge and self development. He always carried a book to read during what few spare minutes he had when he wasn’t working. Jalali has always been passionate about the development of his employees and always concerned with improving safety performance.

“Jalali and I have a close bond both on a personal and a professional level. What he’s accomplished during his professional life here over nearly 29 years is undeniable proof of Abu Majid’s success. We in the company extend our gratitude and respect and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. We thank him for his exemplary efforts throughout his career; he has been an indispensable part of Saudi Aramco and has been vital to its development and attaining the reputation it has now.”

Jalali held a variety of positions since joining the company in 1979, including president and chief executive officer of Aramco Services Company in Houston, Texas, and president of Vela International Marine Limited, Saudi Aramco’s marine shipping subsidiary.

As manager of Vela’s Marine Planning and Technical Services Department, Jalali oversaw cost and construction of 15 VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers). He also served as manager of Northern Areas Project Design & Construction Department, as well as senior project manager for numerous large construction projects.

In his speech, Jalali thanked everyone with whom he had worked with for their parts in his successes.

“I shall always feel content and satisfied during my retirement knowing that I spent my life in Saudi Aramco, a company that always tries to be fair and equal with its employees,” said Jalali.

“The company has ingrained civilized business skills in its employees; where they can argue and disagree in meetings without letting it get personal, so that after the meeting you can find them having lunch together as if nothing happened. The boss becomes the employee and vice versa, building a deeper connection and sense of respect between them.

“I leave this company carrying with me many fond memories, impressions and experiences that shall remain one of the greatest sources of my happiness.”

“This has been a great opportunity for all of us to come together and congratulate Jalali for all his accomplishments over the past 29 years,” said Al-Khayyal. “He has left an indelible mark throughout the different areas he’s worked in within Aramco.”

Jalali said it will be sad to leave his friends here, but he always will keep his memories of them and Saudi Aramco.
