LONDON, April 30, 2008 -- After months of preparation, Aramco Overseas Company UK Ltd. (AOC UK Ltd) recently opened for business.
On the 26th floor of the Centre Point building on New Oxford Street in Central London, the office houses the AOC Staffing Services Unit (SSU), which was formerly based in the AOC global headquarters in Leiden, The Netherlands.
Cutting the ribbon on April 17, to declare the office officially open, Hamed T. Al-Saadoun, vice president of Employee Relations and Training, applauded AOC for its contribution to addressing critical manpower needs. “A continuous influx of trained professionals is critical in today’s industry,” Al-Saadoun said.
Opening the Aramco Overseas Company UK Ltd. offices are, from left, Abdulhadi A. Al-Mansouri; Mohammad S. Al-Ajmi, Expatriate Employment Division administrator; Abdalhafidh M. Nagshabandi; Mohammad A. Al-Shammary, SPOL managing director; Hamed T. Al-Saadoun; Salah A. Al-Masoud, Industrial Relations Division administrator, AOC Leiden; and Musab A. Al-Mubayedh.
“Our people are a vital resource, and in order to flourish as a global company, it is essential that, as well as attracting Saudi employees, we employ the best and the brightest talents from all over the world. This ensures the exchange and transfer of best practices in the oil industry and meets our strategic imperative of Transforming Corporate Performance.”
Moving SSU to the United Kingdom is a new chapter in work-force development, Al-Saadoun said. “Not only is London the recognized hub of international industry and commerce, but the iconic Centre Point Tower with its impressive views cannot fail to portray the image that we seek to convey to prospective employees — namely that of a global and forward-thinking company seeking to provide energy to the world.”
AOC managing director Abdalhafidh M. Nagshabandi thanked Al-Saadoun for the trust Employee Relations and Training has extended to AOC.
“A dedicated team from AOC has worked diligently to make this office in London a reality, and we are proud to devote the activities of its work force to the service of Saudi Aramco,” he said.
“We are also honored to have Mr. Saadoun and Mr. Musab Al-Mubayedh, director of the Staffing Services Department, sharing this auspicious event with us,” he said. “We are confident that this impressive facility with its committed team will go a long way towards meeting this challenge.”
Al-Mubayedh thanked Nagshabandi and the project team. He stressed that, although Saudi Aramco’s work force is mainly Saudi, its international operations are competing for top-notch candidates for critical positions on a global level.
“SSU’s role is to build Saudi Aramco’s reputation as an employer of choice worldwide,” Al-Mubayedh said. “This is indeed a challenge as we must, in many cases, persuade prospective employees to leave their home and friends, and move to the other side of the world.”
