Al-Buraik to Lead Saudi Aramco Affairs

DHAHRAN, July 16, 2008 --  Khaled A. Al-Buraik, a 21-year employee of Saudi Aramco, has been named the new executive director of Saudi Aramco Affairs, effective July 2008.

Al-Buraik joined the company as a petroleum engineer in the Drilling and Workover Engineering Division in 1987, after completing both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in petroleum engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and working as a faculty member at the university from 1984 to 1987.

Between 1990 and 1991, he joined Exxon, in the United States, on a developmental assignment and served as a petroleum engineer in several departments.

He was acting supervisor of Drilling and Workover Engineering between November 1996 and February 1997, and acting general supervisor of Onshore/Offshore Drilling Engineering from 1997.

In 1999, he served as superintendent of Onshore Development Drilling and worked as general supervisor of Southern Area Gas Engineering.

In March 2000, Al-Buraik began a series of managerial assignments, starting as superintendent of Southern Area Maintenance Support and moving to superintendent of Oil Operations in Shedgum Producing Division and Ain Dar Producing Division. In September of that year, he became acting manager of Southern Area Producing Engineering.

From 2001 to 2004, he served as acting general supervisor of Southern Area Operations Engineering for Abqaiq and for ‘Udhailiyah, manager of Northern Area Drilling Operations, Drilling and Workover Engineering, Drilling and Workover Services, general manager of Drilling and Workover and manager of Production and Facilities Development, Drilling and Offshore Workover and the Sea Water Injection Department.

From 2005 to June 2008, Al-Buraik served as the chief petroleum engineer, and during this period he acted as executive director of Northern Area Oil Operations, executive director of Drilling and Workover and executive director of Petroleum Engineering, until July, when he became executive director of Saudi Aramco Affairs.

Al-Buraik has completed several leadership and management development programs, including Oxford Energy Seminar, the U.K., Leadership at the Peak, Colorado Springs, the eleven-week long IMD Executive Management Training Program in Switzerland, the Leadership Development Seminar, Washington, and the Saudi Aramco Global Business program.

Al-Buraik also serves on the Saudi Petroleum International Inc. (SPII) and Sino Saudi Gas Ltd.  Boards of Directors. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineering and the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
