ALKHOBAR, 7 January 2008 — Toastmasters from all over the Eastern Province will meet in Alkhobar on April 17-18 for the Division-F Toastmasters’ Annual Conference at Le Meridien Hotel. More than 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the two-day meeting, which will include speech contests as well as educational workshops on speech craft, personality development and leadership.
“The Toastmasters’ Div-F Conference 2008 is a mega-event,” said Division Gov. Abdullatif Al-Harthi and Conference Chairman Shahul Hameed. “We expect the two-day event will attract an audience larger than all previous ones,” they added.
During a kick-off meeting here recently, Al-Harthi announced the conference theme, “Beyond Barriers,” while Hameed announced that a total of 14 action committees had been set up to organize the event with three of them having women chairpersons.
The conference will feature contests in three different categories: International, Humorous and Table-Topics. Contestants have gone through two stages of elimination at the club and area level. The winner of the international contest will represent the division at the district conference, Al-Harthi said.
Hameed said the participation of internationally acclaimed speakers and authors would be one of the major attractions of the conference. In addition, eight educational and training seminars will add value to the event.
“The conference, which is hosted by Saudi Aramco and co-sponsored by other companies, is open to all,” Al-Harthi said. “Toastmasters and their guests will both get a chance to be educated, entertained and inspired,” he added.
Toastmasters International is an 80-year-old organization headquartered in the United States and has spread to 90 countries with over 350,000 members.
“This nonprofit movement is devoted to making effective communication a worldwide reality,” said Al-Harthi.
In the Eastern Province, Toastmasters have been active for over 20 years; with a substantial membership of over 1,000 spread over 30 clubs cutting across barriers of language, religion and nationality. Those who are interested in learning more about the conference may contact Marketing Committee Chairman Abdul Aziz Al-Dulaijan on 0503843082.
