Richard Meade
Mr. Meade’s career in Saudi Arabia spans 3 decades. From 1965 to 1976, he
worked for Wilson-Murrow International, a consulting engineering firm that was
contracted to the Ministry of Communications (now Transport) on the Highway
Program. As a Resident Engineer, he supervised construction on a project in
Qassim, then became Liaison Engineer to the Saudi Arabian Government in Riyadh,
and finally Project Manager and Vice President of the firm. From 1977 until
1998, Mr. Meade was associated with H.H. Prince Khalid bin Saud bin Mohamed Al
Saud and was Vice President of Tanhat Holding Company. In this position he was
responsible for business development and the establishment of local companies
which were sponsors or owner-partners of foreign companies working in Saudi
Arabia. The company also owned and operated retail shops.
An active member the American Businessmen’s Group of Riyadh (ABGR), Mr. Meade
was on its Steering Committee from 1978 until 1998 and was the Group’s Chairman
from 1988 until 1990. He was also the Founding Chairman of the American Business
Council of the Gulf Countries (ABCGC). He has lobbied Members of the U.S.
Congress as a Doorknock participant for both the ABGR and the ABCGC.
Mr. Meade and his wife, Frances, traveled widely during their 33 years in the
Kingdom. On weekends, the Meades would pilot their single-engine plane to
different Saudi cities, flying over great stretches of desert to reach and
explore remote areas of the country.
Mr. Meade earned a B.S.C.E. degree in Civil Engineering at the Virginia
Military Institute in 1947. He is a member of the Steering Committee that
established the Saudi-American Forum.
