I am a full-time faculty member in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department of Houston Community College-Southwest and will be traveling with the group going to Saudi Arabia.
My academic specialty is psychology and my department is very conscious of the need to be aware of world events and issues and recently established a program in Global Studies. Students will be able to obtain an associate's degree in the area. My contribution to the program is a cross-cultural psychology course, and I am looking forward to this trip to provide additional illumination on the lifestyles of the Middle East.
Additionally, as a Houston Community College faculty member, I encounter each day in my classes students from around the world. For example, in just one of my introductory classes this spring, I had Moslem students from Bahrain, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Iran and France. I also hope to become more aware of the community of Islam through this trip.
