The Sultan of Borneo's 1947 Visit
Steve Furman grew up in Dhahran and was the first pupil to show up for school in October of 1945. His family roots are very deep in Dhahran. Steve's father went to Arabia in 1939 and was one of the “One Hundred Men” who remained in Arabia during WWII. His daughter and two grand children, both born in Dhahran, reside in Dhahran. That makes four generations of Furmans tied very tightly to Saudi Arabia. It is “Home”.
This picture was taken in 1947 when the Sultan of Borneo visited Aramco and paid a visit to the Dhahran School. This was the entire enrollment in the school less those who were not in the photo because the family was on leave or they were out of school on that particular day.
