U. S. Embassy Warden Message - 2 May 2004

Author: U. S. Embassy
Released 2 May 2004

The U.S. Mission in Saudi Arabia wishes to advise the American community that until further notice, Mission American employees will limit their movements off the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh and the Consulate compounds in Jeddah and Dhahran to essential activities only (i.e., official business, medical and dental appointments, and shopping). Social events on Embassy/Consulate grounds involving outside guests are cancelled.

The Mission has reminded all personnel to maintain a low profile and follow prudent security practices, such as varying times and routes for essential travel, parking personal vehicles in protected areas, and checking vehicles before use. The Mission encourages private Americans to practice these same security precautions.

In addition, Embassy personnel in Riyadh continue to observe a mandatory 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew on visiting residential compounds in the Riyadh area.

The U.S. Mission to Saudi Arabia refers American citizens to the current Department of State Travel Warning for Saudi Arabia dated April 15, 2004 and issued as Warden Message #9/2004. In addition, on May 1, the Mission disseminated revised Public Announcements - Worldwide Caution - and - Middle East and North Africa - as Warden Messages #10/2004 and #11/2004. These documents are available on the Embassy's home page at http://riyadh.usembassy.gov and on Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs website at http://travel.state.gov.

As the Department continues to develop information on any potential security threats to U.S. citizens overseas, it shares credible threat information through its consular information program documents, available on the Internet at http://travel.state.gov. In addition to information on the Internet, travelers may obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and Canada on a regular toll line at 1-317-472-2328.
