Since our founding in 1883, Houghton Academy has been providing students with excellent education in preparation for life after high school. Firmly rooted as both a traditional boarding school and a Christian school, Academy graduates are equipped for success in college; rigorous academics and a college-preparatory curriculum are at the heart of our educational program.
Education does not happen in a vacuum, and so the Academy was founded and continues to stand on the timeless truths of scripture, as reflected in our Mission Statement:
Houghton Academy is a coeducational, college preparatory school established in 1883.
Houghton Academy recognizes and is committed to modeling and teaching spiritual values which draw their vitality and strength from a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
The mission of Houghton Academy is to teach and nurture its students so that each young person makes a personal commitment to Christ; understands the importance of a life of service; grows toward a mature understanding of our society, history, and natural world; develops in physical ability and strength; and exhibits appropriate social courtesies.
Our graduates leave us with the knowledge required to succeed in college, the faith required to direct their knowledge, and the deep understanding of the value of serving their neighbor.
Message from the Headmaster
Welcome to Houghton Academy’s Aramco ExPats sponsor page. Thanks for taking the time to explore. The information shared on this page should introduce you to who we are and the mission that drives us.
Houghton Academy was founded in 1883, a long time before computers and websites. What would I have seen out my office door had I been here during the mid-eighteen ninety’s? Certainly the dress code was a bit different. Science lab equipment was less developed. Students arrived at school via horse and buggy. Classrooms lacked LCD projectors and double-pane windows. The differences would be many and obvious.
As I think of the differences, I am equally conscious of what would be the same. Buildings are still constructed with bricks. Students continue to come from far away places. But one similarity stands out above all others. Houghton Academy’s mission remains true to our founders’ vision. How many schools, 124 years old, can make that claim?
In this age of moral relativism where so many people and institutions seem driven by whichever way the wind blows each day, Houghton Academy has held fast to solid, time-proven values. The things that should change, have changed. The things that should not change, have not.
Thanks for visiting. We would welcome the opportunity for further interaction as you may wish.
Our program
Students come in all shapes and sizes, as do the varied interests and talents they bring. Recognizing that complete education requires more than books and study, the Academy is committed to providing opportunities for our students to be involved in performing arts, visual arts, music, sports, spiritual life activities, literary pursuits, clubs, student
government, class activities and field trips. From soccer to snowboarding, from hand bells to choir, or from the literary magazine to worship team, many students enrich their lives through participation in Houghton Academy school life.
