Several Aramcons from the Dhahran, Abqaiq and Udhailiyah communities went and rooted for their favorite ATP tennis players this past weekend.

The 2005 season opener $1 million Qatar Open men's event was dominated by world #1 Roger Federer of Switzerland, who claimed his 23rd win in 31 finals without dropping a set in the event. Other top players included ATP #10 Gaston Gaudio (Arg), ATP #15 Sebastian Grosjean (Fra), ATP #16 Mikhail Youzhny (Rus) and Greg Rusedski (GBr) amongst the field of 32.

The Goswamy's, Beachey's (Dha), Kleve's (Udh) and others were rewarded by awesome singles and doubles battles for sitting through windy and chilly conditions during the three days that we were there. The Dharan Junior Tennis Association kids ranging from 6 to 14 were inspired by the mastery of these top players. We had breakfast and chatted with the players. The kids had a great time collecting autographs and mementos like towels and wristbands. Rohit Goswamy claims he has 13 top ATP 50 player signatures on his poster - more than anyone else! Of course, the event was incomplete without scarfing down big burgers at Bennigans across from the courts during the matches. The sponsors Exxon-Mobil's generosity allowed free entry to all the spectators. We are looking forward to the women's WTA event in March.

We had a great time! Hope to see you next time!
