DHAHRAN, December 07, 2004 -- Longtime Saudi Aramco employee Frank J. Bergfield has been named to the board of directors of the global Little League Baseball and Softball organization.
Bergfield, international joint-venture coordinator for Refining, Marketing and International, has been with Saudi Aramco for 30 years and has been active with youth sports since 1982.
"Little League has been going on in Saudi Arabia for a long, long time," Bergfield said during a recent interview. "We've had a lot of successes getting teams to the World Series."
He serves as district administrator for Little League across Saudi Arabia. In his new volunteer role, he'll assist the European, Middle East and African Region, which is the organization's largest geographic area.
"My role will be to work with the director of the region to actively help the development of Little League," he said, adding that he will oversee surveys as well as umpire and coach training activities along with equipment supply and capital projects to expand Little League in the region. He also will represent the region on the organization's Executive, Operation and Human Resource committees.
Bergfield said he first became involved years ago, when his young children were interested in baseball. Since that time, he found that volunteering has its own special rewards. "I've dedicated a lot of my time just working," he said. "And working with the kids has been reward enough."
