Kayla Vivian Otoo, an 8th Grader with the Dhahran School and a member of the BSA Dhahran Troop One Scouting Program earned her Eagle Scouting Rank on 5/10/2022.  Kayla Otoo joined the Scouting Program in the 6th Grade and has been working alongside other scouts for the past few years. To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. In addition, an Eagle Scout must earn 21 merit badges and show dedication to Scout Oath and Scout Law. Furthermore, several specific skills are required to advance through the ranks—Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, and Eagle. Kayla Otoo earned 21 merit badges in the areas of, Citizenship in the Nation, Community and World, Electricity, Emergency Preparedness, Cooking and Camping to name a few.  For the Hiking Merit Badge, Kayla completed a 5-mile, 10-mile, three 15-mile hikes and a 20-mile hike in that specific order. Kayla said it was fun to complete that challenge with other scouts and assistant scout masters.

Kayla believes in the program because of the learning and leadership opportunities that it offers scouts and hopes more girls can join the Troop One program.

Kayla’s scouting journey was made possible by the Troop 1 Leadership including Scoutmaster Crystal Jacobs, several Assistant Scout Masters and Adult Volunteers.

Kayla organized a toiletry drive for her Eagle Project. The drive gave away toiletries to the ladies that help to clean several homes in the Dhahran Community. She received tremendous help and support from several families in Dhahran that donated toiletries for the packages for the ladies.

Kayla is excited about her achievement and is encouraging other girls to join the Troop to help improve their leadership qualities for the benefit of the community.
