A go-bag is a term that refers to a bag packed with essentials you would want to have with you if you have to depart quickly.
What is in your go bag?

  • Three-day supply of food, water, snacks, energy bars
  • Medical items: medical records, immunization records, OTC meds, prescription meds
  • Documents : Passports (make sure they are valid), birth certificates, marriage certificates, power of attorneys, house titles, driver’s license, etc.
  • Cash – how much cash? What currency?
  • Checkbook
  • ATM card, credit card
  • Safe Deposit box keys
  • Clothing – be ready for all elements
  • Personal documents – photo albums, book, iPad, cards, computer, external hardrive
  • Toiletries – soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.
  • First aid kit
  • Cell phone and charger
  • Radio
  • Flashlight and batteries

Go Bags for Children

  • Everyone needs a go bag
  • Go Bags should include clothing (for all elements) diapers, food snacks, medicine
  • Toys, books, favorite blanket


Pets

  • Best time to send pets home is before an emergency – may not be permitted on commercial airlines
  • Know the exit requirements for pets before an emergency
  • Keep vaccination records with personal documents
  • Have a plan of who/where you could send a pet ahead of your travel – kennel, relatives, friends
