Under: Obituary

Alpha V. Mooney, 93, of Norman, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at home. Mrs. Mooney was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Burbank, CA to Forest Lee and Dorothy (George) Scott. She graduated from Huntington Park High School in Huntington Park, CA. She was employed by Arabian American Oil Co (ARAMCO) in 1950 to work as a keypunch supervisor in Saudi Arabia. There she met her husband, John Mooney, who was from Norman, Oklahoma and employed by Halliburton. They were married in 1957 in Zurich, Switzerland.

During their 50-year marriage, they lived in several countries, including Trinidad, West Indies, Iran, Venezuela and Holland.

When John retired from Halliburton in 1982, they returned to the United States and settled in Norman. In Norman, Alpha was a member of Trails Country Club, where she had great success in the women's golf league, and of the Tulip Garden Club, where her artistic ability was displayed in her creative flower arrangements. She enjoyed painting as well as working with her beautiful roses.

Alpha was an enthusiastic OU football fan. She looked forward to family events and particularly enjoyed hearing about her numerous great-grandnieces and grandnephews. And she loved their Rhodesian Ridgebacks especially.

Mrs. Mooney was predeceased by her husband, John; her two brothers, Robert and Forest; and nephew, Marvin Morrison. She is survived by nephews, Craig Scott and Glenn Scott; nieces, Marcene Primrose, Marilyn Keller, Gwen Stone, and Sara Scott; her grandnephews, Kevin Wiegand, Blake Morrison, and Kenneth Primrose; grandnieces, Jennifer Murphy, Angela Crews, Deborah Kosmont, Julie Kerkhoff, and Christen Tuxworth; and their families. A memorial will take place in the spring.
