Michael Francis Matthews passed away on March 20, 2016 in Livingston, Texas. He was born on November 12, 1944 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Holland and Frances Matthews.

Michael grew up in Amory, Mississippi. He received his college degree from Mississippi State University, and achieved a commissioned officer rank in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He excelled as a leader in the Georgia Jaycees where he rose to state Vice President.

Michael's first job was with Industrial Risk Insurers and was promoted 4 times to become Engineer- In- Charge of their Houston, Texas office. His second job was with Flour Engineers and Constructors where he received 3 promotions to the position of Director of Insurance. His final job was with Saudi Aramco where he earned 2 promotions to the position of Financial Analyst. He served on the command staff of their Oil Spill Response team and specialized in merger and acquisition insurance program design and implementation.

Michael achieved his retirement dream of living on a golf course with a golf cart in his garage. He was devoted to his daughter Tiffany with whom he took vacations in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and all over the U.S. He also enjoyed during his spare time following dramatic and athletic performances at Sam Houston State University.

Michael requested that no services were to be held in his honor. Instead, to honor his request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elkins Lake Recreation Corporation, 282 Elkins Lake, Huntsville, Texas 77340-7399.
