Let me introduce you to Saint George Island, one of the few remaining inhabited but unspoiled beaches in the Florida Panhandle. If you are looking for an island escape with that “Old Florida” feeling of no high rises, low density, beautiful white sand and sparkling water, check here to see photos and additional information.
St. George Island is a vacation paradise with pristine beaches that are serene and pet friendly. The island consistently rates as one of the top beaches in the U.S. with miles of beautiful, uncrowded beaches for sunning and shelling, clear gulf waters for swimming and sailing, excellent fishing in the Gulf and the Bay, and pristine marsh and wooded areas for wildlife lovers and birdwatchers. The Island is protected by low density zoning and strict building codes. This makes St. George a tranquil beach community with no high rises or chain stores.
In the center of the island St. George Island Lighthouse greets each arriving guest. There is a public parking area, playground, public showers and rest rooms, a covered picnic area and walkover to the beach. All the local business are located in this six block commercial district. This portion of the island was the first developed residential area and there are a mixture of older and newer homes.
The east end of the island is occupied by Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park. The 1800- acre park features picnic areas with bathhouses, boardwalks, observation decks, nature trails and camping facilities.
On the west end is The Plantation, a gated, planned community with large lots and beautiful vegetation. Residents and guests have access to tennis courts, a large pool and an airstrip for private planes.
