For Kent Lyn, the opportunity to help young engineers grow in their field has always been one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. It’s a job that started nearly 24 years ago in the Ras Tanura Producing Engineering Group and took him throughout the Eastern Province — from Abu Hadriyah to Khursaniyah and Qatif, and Abu Ali to Dammam. During his many years and many roles with the company, Lyn worked on several projects and looked to instill team spirit and commitment. It was this attitude that shone through in his work repeatedly. It also helped when he moved to Safaniyah as lead engineer and began working with many young engineers. In 2010, Lyn served as an environmental coordinator for one year and then joined the project team, becoming senior operations engineer in charge of a number of project assignments with the Project Management Team. One of things that Lyn was most proud of was seeing the growth of engineers where some are now holding key positions in Saudi Aramco. “During his long and distinguished career, he became a notable resource of expertise and trained many young engineers who are now in high positions,” said Sufoug Al Shammary, his superintendent. “Kent is well known for his knowledge and experience in various engineering subjects, and many young engineers learned from his experience over the years.” At a farewell lunch in his honor in Tanajib, Lyn spoke of his friendships throughout the years and company achievements. “I want to thank Saudi Aramco, the company that gave me a lot. It gave me the job security, and more importantly, it gave me a second family that consists of great friends and brothers. I am very proud to be part of this outstanding department and to have worked with all of you.” When Lyn arrived in Saudi Arabia, he had three wishes. First, he wanted to develop his talent. Secondly, he wanted to make money. Lastly, he wanted to learn Arabic. “I’ve succeeded in the first two, but I’m still working on learning how to speak Arabic,” he said. Born and raised in Jamaica, Lyn earned his engineering degree at Howard University in Washington, D.C. After graduation, he worked for chemical company Monsanto in St. Louis, Missouri, eventually coming to Saudi Aramco in 1991. He is married to June William and has three daughters (Sofia, Whitney and Morgan) residing in the U.S.; two sons (Brice and Jordan) living in the U.S.; and a stepson, Dijon Young, who lives in Jamaica. He is also a grandfather of two boys (Jordan and Blake) and one granddaughter (Jamila). “My last few words are thoughts for you at NAOO: We need to be able to attract young talented engineers to join offshore and to keep the momentum and to show the opportunities. “You will lead and continue this journey," he said. “I will always remember you all in my heart."
