My fellow Aramcons no doubt remember how sports helped bind us together during our time living in oil patch camps scattered across the Kingdom. High on my list of favorite memories from those years are the softball games that filled so many of my hours away from work.
We trust everyone had a safe trip home and that you also took with your many wonderful memories of the Asheville Hafla Reunion at the Omni Grove Park Inn. Your hosts and co-hosts thank you again for coming.
Do you know if you will have enough financial resources to meet your goals upon retirement?
Seventy-five years ago today, Casoc, now Saudi Aramco, had its first customer for a tanker-load of oil. If the company had been a mom and pop bakery, they would have proudly framed that first dollar bill.
By Grace Malone for AramcoExpats.com</em> Tim Barger’s stories about 1950s Aramco evoke a bygone era that defined a certain Aramcon spirit of doing more with less and having a fine time doing it – from a kid’s point of view. His collection Arabian Son: 21 Stories was released last month and I interviewed him about the book by telephone and email.
Tim Barger’s collection of stories about his years growing up in Aramco are a study in impaired judgment and poor impulse control - yet they are entirely recognizable to any of us who lived in a place where you woke up to the muezzin and went to lunch at the whistle.
In December 2013, Steven Reilly Denyer received his MBA degree from Hood College in Frederick Maryland. Steven was a student of Dhahran schools from 1980 to 1986. He is the son of Al and Pat Denyer who resided in Dhahran and Ras Tanura from April 1980 to August of 1990 when Al retired from Aramco. Steven and his wife Carrie live in Germantown, Maryland with their two children.
Do you remember the fun that was the annual Dhahran Rugby Club May Ball from the late 1970s and early ‘80s? They were variously held on the old Pool Patio and then in the Dining Hall during the Rugby Club’s heyday. Well, we decided to get together to recreate some of the memories, and 102 of us took over the Limpley Stoke Hotel, Bath, England for a weekend of reminiscence, May 31-June 2.
LIVING and working abroad may sound romantic. But having a financial life in more than one country — if one of those countries is the United States — is becoming increasingly complicated. Managing an international financial life was once solely the purview of the super rich, who jetted around the world. But given the still-high unemployment rate in the United States, opportunities for middle-class jobs abroad, in areas like finance, oil and construction, are becoming more appealing.
