Play Ball! Memories of Udhailiyah Revisited

BY Aramco ExPats / /

My fellow Aramcons no doubt remember how sports helped bind us together during our time living in oil patch camps scattered across the Kingdom. High on my list of favorite memories from those years are the softball games that filled so many of my hours away from work.

75 Years Ago Today - The Kingdom Changes

Seventy-five years ago today, Casoc, now Saudi Aramco, had its first customer for a tanker-load of oil. If the company had been a mom and pop bakery, they would have proudly framed that first dollar bill.

An interview with Tim Barger

By Grace Malone for AramcoExpats.com</em> Tim Barger’s stories about 1950s Aramco evoke a bygone era that defined a certain Aramcon spirit of doing more with less and having a fine time doing it – from a kid’s point of view. His collection Arabian Son: 21 Stories was released last month and I interviewed him about the book by telephone and email.

Well, we decided to get together to recreate some of the memories, and 102 of us took over the Limpley Stoke Hotel, Bath, England for a weekend of reminiscence, May 31-June 2.

LIVING and working abroad may sound romantic. But having a financial life in more than one country — if one of those countries is the United States — is becoming increasingly complicated. Managing an international financial life was once solely the purview of the super rich, who jetted around the world. But given the still-high unemployment rate in the United States, opportunities for middle-class jobs abroad, in areas like finance, oil and construction, are becoming more appealing.
