Pat McGown

Deceased: 5 March 2005

Under: Obituary

Pat McGown, wife of Don McGown, died on March 5th of lung cancer.

Pat and Don were lifelong friends, because their parents had known each other before they were born, and they grew up together as children. They dated some in high school, but then married other spouses and raised their respective families, always remaining in touch as friends over the years.

Then in 1982, when they were both unattached again, they married, and Don took Pat away from her well-ordered life in Westchester, NY to spend the next seven years in Dhahran. Pat was very active in the Dhahran Theater Group and the Garden Club. She came to love life in Saudi, and was always ready and eager for the next trip, the next new adventure, the next new friends.

Pat was always filled with the joy of life, and brought happiness to all around her. Her radiant smile always lit up the room, and her laughter, quick wit, enthusiasm, optimism and zest for living were infectious.

Pat and Don retired in 1989 and settled in Southampton, NY. In 1999 Pat had a 5-way heart bypass and a kidney transplant (Don donated the kidney). The lung cancer wasn't diagnosed until February 1st this year, and the diease took her in just over one month.

Don had worked for Aramco first in New York from 1953-1956, then in The Hague from 1956-1960, and rejoined the company in 1977 in Dhahran.

Pat is survived by Don, as well as four children, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Don McGown can be contacted at 28 Dover Avenue, Southampton, NY 11968, or at 631-283-7069, or mcgowndh@aol.com.
