Pearl Lindy Constance-Wardell
Pearl Lindy Constance-Wardell, (nee Henderson) age 94, on December 23, 2022. A long-time resident of Newtown Square, PA, and Darby, PA.
Predeceased by her husbands David Constance of Syracuse, NY and Francis Wardell of Darby, PA.
Survived by her children, John Stewart Constance (Brenda), Kathryn Krakowiak (Walter), Marie Constance Lewis (Roy), Thomas Constance (Marie) and Richard Constance (Stacy), and also her 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and her sister Barbara H. Coughlin, a long-time resident of Watertown, NY.
A celebration of life will occur in April 2023 on her birthday.
Contributions in Lindy's memory may be made to the Delaware County Historical Society.
Lindy was a published Genealogist, Historian, Author, and active civic Volunteer.
Lindy lived in the Middle East for 7 years where her three youngest children were born. She assisted religious and civic groups in supporting and caring for refugees and homeless people there. She traveled extensively in the Holy Land, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Rome, Amsterdam, and The Hague. She gave lectures and slide presentations on the Holy Land and Saudi Arabia to churches, civic and professional groups, and to school classes.
Lindy lead an active life of work and volunteerism.
Lindy's Work Included:
- Administrator and public relations coordinator at the Emergency Aid of Pennsylvania Foundation in Bryn Mawr PA.
- Vice president of the Trade Development Corporation in Philadelphia PA.
- Associate at Constance and Wallace Industrial Managers, management consultants in Philadelphia PA.
- Vice president of the Bicentennial Bus Company in Philadelphia, PA.
- Assistant regional coordinator, Middle East region, export department, Carrier Corporation, Syracuse, NY.
- Student Housing Coordinator Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY.
- Owner and operator of a Preschool in the ARAMCO Corporate Community in Saudi Arabia.
Lindy's Volunteerism
She was an active volunteer in the community locally, nationally, and internationally. She volunteered at:
- The Public Schools that her five children attended as a library volunteer, vice president and secretary of the Ways and Means Committee, and chairman of the parent-teacher association
- The Board of Education Committee that was responsible for surveying private schools in Europe and the U.S., for corporate communities where education was not provided past the 9th grade
- The Recreation Board
- The Federation Of Women's Clubs Overseas, and represented the Middle East at the Brussels, Belgium conference where she was honored by King Albert II and Queen Paola.
- Ways and Means chairman for Newtown Square, PA Women's Club
- President of the United UMC Women's Society and was a church school teacher and was a representative to the Church Women's United
- President of the Newtown Square, Pennsylvania Council Of Republican Women
- She worked with the National Republican Party and was a representative for the Northeastern United States Republican Women's Leadership Conference in Philadelphia, PA
- Officer of the Newtown Township Pennsylvania Library Committee
- Member of the Echo Valley Civic Association
- Board of Directors and Treasurer, Transitional Housing of Southeast Delaware County Pennsylvania that aided individuals in crisis and found them employment
- Director, of the Darby Community Project in Darby PA where she organized a thrift shop operation and local ministerium at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Darby PA. It served over 7000 people a year and is where she's supervised the work of community service juveniles.
- President of the Friends of Darby Methodist Meeting Cemetery where she discovered the first cousins of Abraham Lincoln that settled in the area before 1700.
- Her documentation for "Remembrance Day" was approved as a National Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Activity.
- She researched, restored and preserved the site of one of the first Methodist churches in America.
- She authored Mount Zion Methodist Meeting Established in 1808 where she received a Delaware County Heritage Commission Publication Award.
- President of the Darby Borough Historical and Preservation Society where she received the Delaware County Heritage Commission's Outstanding Individual Achievement Award for her work in preserving the history of Darby Borough, PA
- She received the Lee C. Brown Award for extraordinary volunteer service to the Darby Borough Historical And Preservation Society
- Advisory board member to the Delaware County Daily Times Community
- She is listed in the Who's Who Of American Women
- Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" published Lindy's book on Darby Borough.
