Richard Cheney Gibson, better known as Dick, died July 16, 2008.

Dick was born on June 28, 1932 in Newton, Massachusetts to Lucy Cheney Gibson and James Wallace Gibson. He was the youngest of three and survived his sister Jean and brother James. He was a Mayflower descendent. He graduated from Newton High School and Bowdoin College, joined the Army and became a helicopter pilot serving in Japan and Korea. He married Geraldine Lappin of Portland, Maine and had three children. Richard went on to earn an MBA at UC Berkeley and began work as an accountant in San Francisco.

He and his family moved back to Portland, Maine where he became the controller of Jordan Meats. He and his wife divorced and he moved to New York City, followed by Cincinnati, Ohio, California and then Saudi Arabia where he spent 18 years working for Aramco Oil Co. He was very involved in looking after the US troops deployed there during the Gulf Wars, including his son Lt. Colonel Roger Gibson. He excelled in creating fun and greatly enjoyed entertaining and sporting activities and especially loved BBQ outings.

Upon his retirement he lived in Thailand most of the year and traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia. He also spent time at his homes in Ft. Myers, Florida and at his lovely summer home in South Brooksville, Maine. His family was one of the founders of the Bucks Harbor Yacht club and he donated land for the club's use.

He had a wonderful curiosity and zest for life and had many interests and close friends. He will be missed by all including his children, son John and daughter in-law Karen, daughter Chris and partner Mr. Tomi Tiainen, son Roger Gibson and grandsons Corey and Casey.

A gathering in his honor was held August 10th at his summer home. His ashes were spread at Pond Island in Penobscot Bay.
